Lewis and Clark Community College scholarships are open for the 24-25 school year. Attached is a flyer explaining how to apply. Secondly: Lewis and Clark Community College is having an open house on their Edwardsville campus for the Process Operations and Industrial Electricity program. Both are in high demand. Process technicians learn how to operate furnaces, distillation columns, reboilers, heat exchangers, steam systems, and cooling-water systems — the essential elements of all process industries. In the Industrial Electricity program, you'll learn to install, test, calibrate and maintain instruments that measure, indicate and control variables such as pressure, flow, level, density, temperature, force, vibration and chemical composition. In the Process Operations program.

On Friday, October 6th, EAWR hosted teachers, administrators, and staff from Wood River-Hartford #15, Region III Cooperative, and Bethalto CUD. The keynote speaker was Luis Rodriguez, an attorney from ECB&S, LLC who spoke about supporting students with IEPs in the regular education environment. He focused on special education laws, least restrictive environment for students with disabilities, and covered some court cases about special education. Then, there were 3 breakout sessions where attendees got to choose from various topics relating to special education including co-teaching, behavior management, utilizing paraprofessionals, 504 eligibility, having conversations with difficult parents, supporting students with hearing impairments, transition services, and round table discussions for related service providers. Beth Bequette, the coordinator from WRH and I presented about the pertinent parts of the IEP for general education teachers. We also were fortunate to have several speakers from community organizations such as AMARE, Refuge4Kids, and SOAR talk about resources available to help all students.

For bullying prevention month and OilerNation week, we took several fall athletes to the elementary schools this morning. We broke into small groups and read to classrooms books about bullying prevention. Our students also took questions and spent some time talking about how they've dealt with bullying in their own lives. Thanks to the Wood River public library for getting us the books and to the OilerNation districts for allowing us to come. Together, we turned a rainy, gloomy day into a bright one!

Thank you to the Madison County Mental Health Board for your support in training two of our EAWR staff members! Mrs. Caraway & Mrs. Venvertloh are officially instructors of the National Council for Mental Health's Teen Mental Health First Aid Program. They are the first in Madison County! Soon, some of our EAWR students will be trained on how to assist a friend/peer during a mental health challenge, how to find an adult, and provide valid resources for further aid.
